Virginia Posts Impressive 14-10 Win Over Cornell
Top-ranked Virginia used a dominating second-half performance to break open a tight contest and defeat No. 4 Cornell 14-10 this afternoon before 4547 fans at Klöckner Stadium.

The Cavaliers move to 7-0 this season, while Cornell is now 2-1.

Midfielders Shamel Bratton and Steve Giannone led the way for Virginia with three goals apiece. Fellow midfielder Brian Carroll scored twice and assisted on three other goals.

Blue Devils Best Bulldogs, 14-6
Duke University junior Max Quinzani tallied a game-high six points from five goals and an assist to lead the 13th-ranked Blue Devils to a 14-6 win over Yale in men’s lacrosse action today at Koskinen Stadium. Quinzani closed out an impressive three-game stretch in six days with 14 goals and a helper for 15 points.

Duke (5-2) featured a balanced attack against the Bulldogs, getting goals from 10 different players. Seniors Ned Crotty and Zach Howell added a goal and two assists to the Blue Devil cause, while rookie Rob Rotanz tallied his first collegiate goal. Duke finished 3-of-4 on its man-up scoring opportunities.

Brendan Gibson led Yale (2-2) with four goals and an assist, while Matt Gibson added two points (1-1) in the loss.

No. 7 Fighting Irish Hand No. 3 Tar Heels First Loss Of Season
Seventh-ranked Notre Dame outscored third-ranked North Carolina 6-3 in the second half Sunday afternoon to hand the Tar Heels their first loss of the season by a 9-7 count. The Fighting Irish defense held Carolina to less than half its season goal average as they improved to 4-0. UNC fell to 6-1 with the loss.

The Tar Heels, who were seeking to give Head Coach Joe Breschi his 99th career coaching victory, led 4-3 at halftime but Notre Dame outscored the Tar Heels 2-0 in the third quarter to take a 5-4 lead into the fourth quarter. The Tar Heels were never able to get the equalizer in the final period and Notre Dame three times built three-goal leads.

UNC will try to bounce back when it plays Providence at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels will host ACC rival Duke on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a game to be nationally-televised by ESPNU.
