Blue Devils Brush Off Colgate, 21-10

DURHAM, N.C. - The sixth-ranked Duke mens lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 21-10 defeat of Colgate (0-2) on Sunday. Sophomore attackman Greg Patchak led the Blue Devils in scoring with six points on four goals and two assists. Junior attackman T.J. Durnan also added four goals.

The Blue Devils started the game on the offensive, scoring first on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Nick Hartofolis at the 14:31 mark. The Blue Devils added three more goals before Colgate could enter the scoring column on a goal by senior midfielder Mark Cashel with 6:32 left in the first quarter. Colgate added another goal by senior attackman Adam Michaels at the 3:29 mark. Michaels finished four goals in the contest.

The Blue Devil attack continued in the second quarter as the squad outscored the Red Raiders of Colgate 8-1. Junior attackman Jared Frood and senior midfielder John ODonnell lead the Blue Devils with two goals apiece in the quarter. The halftime score was Duke 13, Colgate 3.

Colgate opened the second half strong, scoring the first two goals of the third quarter. Michaels scored an unassisted goal at the 12:51 mark, and junior Trevor OReilly added another with 12:26 left in the third quarter. Duke responded with six consecutive goals, beginning with a goal by Durnan from Patchak at the 11:46 mark.

In the fourth quarter the Red Raiders outscored the Blue Devils by the score of 4-2, but their comeback was too late. The final score was 21-10.

Dukes sophomore goalkeeper Matt Breslin tallied 11 saves. The Blue Devils will travel to Maryland for their next contest on March 7th at 1pm.
