Wyndham Championship to Feature 27 Alumni of ACC Schools
Aug. 19, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Twenty-seven golfers with Atlantic Coast Conference ties will be among the field when the Wyndham Championship gets under way Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club. The Greensboro stop of the PGA Tour will feature 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, who starred at Clemson, as well as 2001 British Open champion David Duval (Georgia Tech) and 1997 PGA champion Davis Love III (North Carolina). Five former golfers from Clemson and five from Georgia Tech are among the Wyndham field, which also includes four alumni from Duke, three each from NC State and Wake Forest, two apiece from North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech, and one from Florida State. The ACC has an even stronger tie to Sedgefield - the conference was founded there on May 8, 1953, and has made its headquarters in Greensboro throughout its 56-plus years of existence. The ACC's current office is only a few miles from the course. Below is the complete list of ACC alumni competing in the 2009 Wyndham Championship, listed alphabetically:
