![]() 2009 All-ACC Academic Men's Golf Team Announced
July 29, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - ACC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech leads the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Tringale, a senior Management major, is a three-time ACC All-Academic team selection, a four-time All-ACC Team honoree, a first-team GCAA All-American and a Cleveland All-America Scholar. Tringale tied for third at the 2009 ACC Championship and was medalist winner at the Brickyard Collegiate and Southern Highlands Collegiate this year. He finished his career with the second-best career stroke average (71.80) in Georgia Tech history. Three golfers who earned All-ACC honors this past season secured spots on the 2009 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Golf Team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. All-ACC Academic team members also earning All-ACC honors in 2009 were Clemson's Ben Martin, Georgia Tech's Tringale, and Virginia Tech's Drew Weaver. Boston College, Georgia Tech and North Carolina were represented by three players while Duke, Virginia and Wake Forest claimed two players each. Clemson, Maryland and Virginia Tech landed one player each to round out the 18-member team. Nine golfers were repeat honorees from the 2008 All-ACC Academic team, which includes Boston College's Jan Prokop Clemson's Martin, Duke's Adam Long, Georgia Tech's David Dragoo and Tringale, North Carolina's Chase McFarland and Henry Zaytoun, Virginia Tech's Weaver and Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow.
