Former NC State golfer Fernando Mechereffe won $5,000 with a second place finish at the Tar Heel Tour's South Carolina Classic

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Former NC State golfer Fernando Mechereffe finished second at the Tar Heel Tour's South Carolina Classic Thursday at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C. Mechereffe lost by one stroke, but won $5,000 for three rounds of work. Two more former Wolfpack standouts joined Mechereffe in the top five, as Chris Mundorf tied for third place to earn $2,500 and David Sanchez tied for fifth place to take home $1,800.

Mechereffe followed up a first round 64 with a 69 in the second round. He eagled the 18th hole in the final round to card a 71 for round three and finish 12 strokes under-par. Mundorf went 70-66-69 and Sanchez shot 71-68-67. Garth Mulroy, another former NC State golfer, competed in the tournament as well.
