Former Pack Golfer Posts Strong First Round At British Open
July 18, 2002
For one day anyway, Tim Clark was just as good as Tiger Woods. The former Wolfpack golfer has thrown himself squarely into the hunt by carding a one-under par 70 in the opening round of the British Open at the Muirfield Golf Links Gullane, Scotland. Clark and Woods, who is shooting for his third consecutive major championship this year, join a large group of players that managed to break par in unusually calm weather conditions along the Scottish coastline. Clark's up and down round included five birdies and four bogeys on the par 71 layout. The early clubhouse leader is American Duffy Waldorf, who played bogey-less golf in shooting a 67.
Another former NC State player worth watching for the remainder of the afternoon is Carl Pettersson. Through seven holes of his round, Pettersson has tallied a pair of birdies to move to minus-two.
