Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team has been selected to play in the prestigious Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championships this coming October at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Invitation to the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championships is based on the 2006 Division I national championships finish, the Wolfpack finished 18th this past season. The event, which will be held Oct. 29-31, features 16 teams that finished in the top-20 at nationals this spring.

National champion Oklahoma State headlines the field and is joined by Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Lamar, Minnesota, NC State, Texas A&M, UCLA, UNLV and Washington.

"Colonial Country Club is privileged to be the host site for the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship this fall," said Colonial Country Club President Bill E. Bowers. "The matching of sixteen of the top college golf teams in the country with Colonial's golfing legacy and its history of being the host club for the longest running professional tournament in golf played at the same site should produce an exciting and challenging event. We are especially pleased to host this event because of the amateur status of the players."

•All-American Stephen Lewton, who just finished his NC State career this past spring, had a successful weekend June 29-30 at the 2006 Palmer Cup, a top amateur tournament that matches Europe against the U.S. This year it was held at Prestwick Golf Club, about an hour from Glasgow.

Lewton was part of the winning European team, easily defeating the U.S. 19.5-4.5. For his efforts, Lewton was awarded the Michael Carter `Junior' Memorial Award, presented to the Palmer Cup participant from each team who best represents the qualities and ideals of the late Penn State golfer Michael Carter. Former Wolfpack golfer Justin Walters was the first winner of this award back in 2002.

•On the pro circuit, two NC State alums continue to be near the top of the money earnings list this year. Carl Pettersson currently ranks No. 13 on the PGA Money List with earnings of $2,195,258 this summer, and Tim Clark is No. 21 having earned $1,696341.

Pettersson has played in 19 tournaments so far this year. He has five top-10 finishes, and won the Memorial Tournament back in early June. Clark has played 16 tournaments, and has tallied four top-10 finishes. In his first major of 2006, Clark finished second at the Masters in April.

Both Clark and Pettersson tied for fourth at the Cialis Western Open last weekend in Lemont, Illinois. Each finished the tournament at 9-under par, and earned $181,250 each for their weekend of action.

Next up for the pair is the British Open, this year being played at Royal Liverpool Golf Course July 20-23.
