PINEHURST, N.C. - Two University of North Carolina golfers, Ryan Holler and David Holzworth, won their first-round matches, thus advancing to Thursday's second round of the 106th annual North and South Amateur which is being played at Pinehurst #2.

Holler, a rising junior from Morehead City, N.C., defeated Southern Mississippi's Justin Elliott 5&3, and moves on to play Matt Harmon, a rising senior at Michigan State. Holzworth, a rising sophomore from Chapel Hill, defeated Michigan's Brian Ottenweller 5&3 and now faces John Kelly, a rising senior at Missouri. Kelly defeated Carolina's Robert Riesen in 21 holes in Wednesday's first round. Tar Heel Jonathan Jackson, from Chapel Hill, lost to Texas A&M's Robert Gates 4&3 while Carolina's Barden Berry, from Kinston, N.C., lost to Tennessee-Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge 1 up.

Match play of this year's prestigious North and South began on Wednesday. The second and third rounds will be played Thursday with quarterfinal matches on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday, and the 36-hole final will take place on Sunday.
