NORFOLK, Va. - Virginia senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) has been named to the 2002 Virginia State Golf Association All-State First Team, association officials announced on Friday.

The team captain started every tournament during his Cavalier career. Ranked No. 29 nationally by Golfweek, Marino captured medalist honors for the second time in his career at the Wofford Invitational. He birdied the final hole to give UVa the team title while shooting a nine-under 207, including a career-low 65 in the round. Marino was the top UVa finisher at the 2002 ACC Championship, placing eighth overall with a six-under 210. The All-ACC honoree was also named team MVP at UVa's 2002 All-Sports Banquet.

Last fall Marino finished second at the Mason Rudolph after firing a spectacular 68-67-65-200 (-10) to set the school record for 54 holes. He shot a career-low 65 in the final round.

Marino concluded his collegiate career with an appearance at the 2002 NCAA East Regional.
