TOYOTA, Japan - Nick Smith, a member of the nation's No. 6 ranked men's golf recruiting class in the nation at Florida State, has helped lead the United States to the team title at the Junior World Cup Championship at Chukyo Golf Course. The U.S. team won the event for the second consecutive season and established tournament records for most strokes under par (40) and largest margin of victory (12 strokes) in winning the 14-team event.

Smith finished the event with a two-over par total of 288 for the 72-hole event. He earned his best scores in the second and third rounds with scores of 69 and 70 as the United States made its move to the top of the team leaderboard. After finishing the first in a four-way tie for first place and dropping to second place after two rounds, the United States buckled down and won the event going away in the third and four rounds. In the final two rounds, the individual U.S. players finished under par in seven of eight rounds.

Smith, who will be a Seminole freshman this coming fall, finished 24th in the individual standings and was one of only 28 players in the competition to finish at two-over par or better for the four-day international competition. Erik Flores, who set the course record with an eight-under 64 in the third round, won individual medalist honors as he finished with an incredible four day total of 20-under par for a score of 268.

Smith (Ocala, Fla./Belleview) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will begin attending Florida State and playing golf for third year head coach Trey Jones during the fall of 2005.
