Duke senior Mike Castleforte was named a 2004 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Recipient, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on Monday.

A native of Springboro, Ohio, Castleforte posted a 73.3 stroke average in 12 tournaments during the year, recording three top-10 finishes and six top-20 showings. He tied for second on the Duke squad with 13 rounds of even-par or better.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and have competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level. Additionally, he must have participated in at least 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. He must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his university.

Castleforte graduated last month with a degree in economics and a minor in history after compiling a 3.624 cumulative grade-point average. He is the first Blue Devil men's golfer to earn Academic All-America honors since Matt Krauss in 2001.
