June 2, 2001

Norman, Okla. -- Georgia Tech senior golfer Bryce Molder (Conway, Ark.) won his second National Collegiate Player of the Year award in 2001, as he was named the recipient of the Jack Nicklaus Collegiate Player of the Year award for the second time in his career. Earlier in May, he was named the recipient of the Dave Williams Collegiate Player of the Year Award.

The win by Molder marks the fourth time that a Yellow Jacket player has won the award, joining David Duval in 1993, Stewart Cink in 1995 and repeating his own feat from 1998 as a freshman. Molder finished the 2001 season with a stroke average of 69.43 and a career average of 70.67, both of which are NCAA all-time bests. This year, Molder won three individual titles, tying him with David Duval atop Tech®s all-time list with eight career victories. He finished outside the top four on only two occasions, and will compete in the Palmer Cup for the third time in his career later this month.

Adding to his growing list of accolades, Molder becomes only the fourth player in history to be named a four-time first-team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Joining Molder in that elite company is former Tech standout David Duval (1990-93), Arizona State®s Phil Mickelson (1989-92), and Wake Forest®s Gary Hallberg (1975-78).

Joining Molder on the GCAA All-America teams for the first time in their careers are sophomore Troy Matteson and junior Kris Mikkelsen. Matteson was selected to the third team after recording a pair of top-10 finishes and six top 20s during the 2001 season and finishing the year with a stroke average of 72.45. The second first-time All-American is junior Kris Mikkelsen, who was an honorable mention selection following his impressive fourth-place showing at the NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C. Mikkelsen finished the year with a scoring average of 73.54.
