Clemson Ties for 8th, UNC 10th at NCAA Golf Tourney

CHASKA, Minn. -- Clemson tied for eighth place while UNC finished 10th at the 1999 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.

The Tigers were 18-over par (306) in Saturday's final round, ending with a 72-hole total of 47-over (1199). UNC was 14-over (302) on Saturday and finished at 49-over (1201).

Georgia captured the team title at 28-over, three shots ahead of Oklahoma State. Northwestern's Luke Donald was the individual champion at 4-under. Only three players finished under par.

The low ACC individual was UNC's Max Harris, who tied for sixth place at six-over par. Harris was five-over (77) on Saturday. North Carolina was the only team to have two players finish in top 10 and three players finish in the top 20.

Clemson's Lucas Glover tied for eighth at seven over, while Carolina's Don Hill finished 10th at eight-over. Glover shot a final round of 76, while Hill carded a 73.

Duke freshman Matt Krauss, competing as an individual after the Blue Devils missed the team cut, tied for 12th at 10-over after a final round of 75. It marks Duke's highest individual finish in the NCAA Championships since former Blue Devil John Karcher tied for third in 1990.

UNC's Brad Hyler tied for 16th and Clemson's Jonathan Byrd tied for 16th at 11-over, one shot ahead of Tiger Jani Saari, who tied for 23rd.

Clemson's John Engler and Michael Hoey finished at 23-over and 27-over, respectively. UNC's Paul Daniel was 31-over, while fellow Tar Heel Rob Simmons was 42-over.

The 1999 NCAA Men's Golf Championship was held at the par-72, 7,196-yard Hazeltine National Golf Club.
