Hill Sits Second at NCAA Championship; Two Strokes Out

Thanks to an eagle on his 17th hole of the day, sophomore Matt Hill will go into tomorrow's final round of the 112th NCAA Championships just two strokes off the lead. Hill matched his first round score from yesterday of two-under (69), and is tied with two other golfers for second place heading into tomorrow's third and final round of stroke play at four-under (69-69=138). Alex Ching of San Diego shot a five-under today, and holds the individual lead at six-under (Ching's round was cut short as he played only 10 holes).

Rain caused havoc in today's second round, as play was delayed from 11:35 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. Only half of the field was able to complete their round of 18 today, and tomorrow will feature the conclusion of the second round and then the final round for those golfers. Hill was in the morning group today, and got through 10 holes before he had to sit through the delay.

Stanley Fires Even Par 71 on Second Day of NCAAs

Clemson junior All-American Kyle Stanley fired an even par 71 on Wednesday in the second round of the NCAA golf championships at Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, OH. Stanley stood in 21st place when he finished. The second round will not be completed on Wednesday due to inclement weather.

The final round will be held on Thursday as the weather forecast calls for just 30 percent chance of rain. Many players will have to play between 30-36 holes on Thursday, but Stanley will have just 18, the final 18 of his Clemson career. Play was halted for four and a half hours in the middle of Stanley's round. He played 10 holes before the interruption and eight holes after.

Blue Devils In Eighth Midway Through Second Round At NCAA Championship

After four and a half hour weather delay, senior Michael Quagliano came out and shot four-under through 10 holes of the second round to help Duke move into eighth place heading into tomorrow's final day of stroke play at the NCAA Championship. The Blue Devils will finish the second round on Thursday morning, beginning at 6:45 a.m., prior to moving on to the final round.

Quagliano opened his second round, which began at approximately 6:10 p.m. with back-to-back birdies to get to two-under. He added a birdie on the par 4 14th hole and sank a 16-foot putt for another birdie on No. 16 to move to four-under. With darkness closing in, Quagliano parred No. 17, No. 18 and No. 1 to close the day. The Ardsley, N.Y., native hit all 10 greens in regulation and eight of 10 fairways (his drive on No. 2 was in the middle of the fairway when play ended) in the round. Quagliano is currently tied for sixth overall at two-under.

Sophomore Matthew Pierce carded eight pars and one bogey to sit at one-over midway through the second round, while Adam Long (through 8), Clark Klaasen (through 9) and Wes Roach (through 10) are each two-over in the round. As the team, the Blue Devils are one-over in the second round and 14-over for the tournament.

GT Golfers Advance On Leaderboard at NCAA Golf

Cameron Tringale's 67 matched the best score of the day and led Georgia Tech to a team total of 285 (+1), as the Yellow Jackets made a move up the leaderboard during a weather-delayed second round at the NCAA Men's Division I Golf Championship.

Heavy rain and lightning forced the golfers off the Inverness Club at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday. Play resumed at 4:05 p.m., with the morning wave able to complete their rounds while the rest hoped to finish nine holes before dark.

Thanks to an early tee time, Georgia Tech and 14 other teams were able to finish their rounds, but the 15 teams who made up the afternoon wave will complete their rounds early Thursday morning. The tentative start time to complete the second round is 6:45 a.m. Tournament officials hope to start the third round at approximately 10 a.m.

The 8th-ranked Yellow Jackets were tied for eighth place among teams that finished their second rounds, but were tied for 13th overall when play was halted due to darkness, five spots better than their position after 18 holes. Scores were significantly lower overall Wednesday despite the delay, and Tech was four strokes shy of eighth place when play was stopped for the night.

Cavaliers Golfers in 24th Place When Play Suspended

The Virginia men's golf team was in a tie for 24th place on the leaderboard when play was suspended during Wednesday's second round of the NCAA Championships due to darkness. The Cavaliers were not able to start their round until 5:20 p.m. due to a four hour and 25 minute weather delay when thunderstorms rolled through the Toledo area where the tournament is taking place at the Inverness Club.

Virginia's five players on the course managed to play between 11 and 13 holes when play stopped. As a team, the Cavaliers stood at 7-over for the round entering a very difficult stretch of holes on the front side of the course. UVa shot 22-over 306 during the tournament's first round. The Cavaliers benefited from the late start as only a light breeze blew on the course after stronger winds impacted the field before play was suspended.

Deacons Finish Long Second Day At NCAA Men's Golf Championships

After waiting out a four and a half hour weather delay to start the day, the Wake Forest men's golf team plodded through a tough opening nine and as the horns sounded, the team had slipped to 26th place midway through the second round.

Severe weather rolled through the Toledo, Ohio area around noon on Wednesday and put a halt to the second round. The action didn't startup again until after 4:00 pm and the Demon Deacons didn't start their round until 5:40 pm. The wet conditions and thick rough didn't make scoring easy and the Deacs wound-up 12-over midway through the round.

Freshman Daniel Meggs, who was the low Deacon in round one, is again leading the way in round two. He started his round with two birdies and two bogeys in the first four holes and would make the turn at 2-over. He got through four holes on his second nine and had made four-straight pars.
