Duke Claims Title At River Landing Intercollegiate

WALLACE, N.C. -- Duke blistered the Landing Course (par 72, 7,112 yards) for an 11-under 277 on Sunday to claim the River Landing Intercollegiate championship by nine strokes over host N.C. State. Senior Michael Schachner captured the individual crown when he sank a 40-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole for his second tournament win of the season. Duke now has two tournament wins in head coach O.D. Vincent's first year with the program.

The Blue Devils finished the tournament with a 13-under 851 with N.C. State second at four-under (860). Memphis (E, 864), Wake Forest (+4, 868) and Florida State (+6, 870) rounded out the top 5.

Duke's solid start on Sunday included 14 birdies and just three bogeys on the opening nine holes as all five Blue Devils made the turn under-par. The 14 birdies, including five on the par-5 sixth hole, matched the team's entire birdie total on the front nine from the first and second rounds combined. The Blue Devils' made the turn with a seven-stroke lead over N.C. State, while Schachner trailed Wake Forest's Webb Simpson by two strokes for the individual title.

NC State Men's Golf Finishes Second at River Landing Intercollegiate

Wallace, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team finished second at the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C., shooting a four-under (860) for the three round tournament. The Pack was one of just two teams to finish the tournament at under par, and had three golfers finish in the top-five overall.

The Pack came into the final round tied for first with Duke, but NC State finished the third round at two-under (286) compared to Duke's 11-under (277).

Kent Copeland had all three rounds under par for the weekend, as he finished in a tie for third at five-under for the tournament. Copeland had three birdies in the final round, and shot a one-under (71) on Sunday.

Simpson Falls in Playoff, Deacons Finish Fourth at Intercollegiate

The Wake Forest men's golf team matched its first round total with a 287 in the final round of the River Landing Intercollegiate but fell one spot to finish fourth in Wallace, N.C.

The Deacs finished four over par (868) for the tournament.

Webb Simpson and Duke's Michael Schachner were tied at the end of 54 holes in the race for individual honors, but it was Schachner's birdie on the first playoff hole that denied Simpson the win.

The senior missed a 13-foot birdie putt to continue the playoff. Simpson was looking for his first individual victory in a team event on the season. The Raleigh-native shot a two-under 70 Sunday and finished the tournament with a three-day total of 215 (-7).

Blixt Leads Seminole Men's Golf Team To Fifth Place Finish At River Landing Intercollegiate

WALLACE, N.C. - Florida State University senior All-American Jonas Blixt finished in third place in the individual standings and the No. 7 ranked Seminole men's golf team finished in fifth place in the team standings as play in the River Landing Intercollegiate on the Landing Course at the River Landing Golf Club came to a close. The fifth place finish for the Seminoles marked their fifth top-five team placing in five events this spring.

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) led the Seminoles in the third and final round with a two-under par score of 70 to finish with a five-under par total of 211. He finished in third place to earn his fourth top-five individual finish of the fall 2007 and spring 2008 seasons. Blixt was under par for 17 of the 18 holes played on Sunday and was as many as three strokes under par during the round. He played the third round with 17 holes at par or better with three birdies and only one bogey.

Tar Heel Golf Team Moves Up To Sixth Place At River Landing Intercollegiate

The University of North Carolina men's golf team carded a five-under-par 283 in the final round of The River Landing Intercollegiate to move up to sixth place with a 13-over 877 total. Duke topped the 15-team field with a 13-under 851 total after firing an 11-under 277 on Sunday.

Senior Barden Berry and junior Chase MacFarland led the Tar Heels in the final round as both fired two-under-par 70s and both finished with 223 totals to tie for 45th place in the individual race. Freshman Henry Zaytoun III, from Raleigh, N.C., fired a one-under 71 and posted a 220 total and tied for 30th place. Robert Riesen, a junior from Pinehurst, N.C., shot even-par 72 and finished at 222 to tie for 40th. Freshman Kevin O'Connell carded a two-over 74 on Sunday to finish with an even-par 216 total and a tie for 11th place. Carolina's highest finisher was senior Reed Darsie, from Chapel Hill, who tied for fifth place while playing as an individual. Darsie fired a two-under 70 in the final round for a one-under 215 total. Also playing as an individual was David Holzworth, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, who carded a one-over 73 on Sunday to finish with a 222 total to tie for 40th place.

UVa Golfers Climb to Seventh-Place Finish at River Landing

The Virginia men's golf team shot 6-under 282 during the final round of NC State's River Landing Intercollegiate to climb up the leaderboard for a seventh-place finish in the 15-team field. The Cavaliers' final round score was the team's second best 18-hole total this year. UVa finished the 54-hole event at 15-over 879.

Cavalier freshman Will Collins equaled her career-low with a 4-under 68 during the final round to tie for 20th overall at 2-over 218. UVa teammates Kyle Stough and Conrad Von Borsig, were also 20th. Von Borsig, playing as a non-scoring individual, also shot 68 during the final round, his best 18-hole score this year. Stough posted a 73 during the final round.

Shin Gets Top-Five Finish at River Landing Golf

Donnie Shin earned a tie for fifth individually with a 54-hole total of 1-under-par 215 to lead University of Maryland finishers Sunday at the River Landing Intercollegiate men's golf tournament hosted by NC State.

Shin closed with an even-par 72 on Sunday and ended play as one of 10 golfers to finish under par in the event. It was the second straight top-five finish for the freshman, who tied for second three weeks ago at the George Washington Invitational.

As a team, Maryland finished 10th in the 15-team field with a three-round total of 887. The Terrapins shot 294 in Sunday's final round, led by a 4-under-par 68 by freshman Andrew Kay, who had the best 18-hole score of the event by a Maryland player and who was bested in Sunday's round by only one other player in the field.
