Hill Wins Again; No. 14 Pack Finishes 2nd

STATESBORO, Ga. - For the second straight tournament, NC State sophomore Matt Hill has brought home first place honors. This weekend, Hill won individual medallist honors at the 2009 Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. Hill finished the three rounds at 7-under (209) and won by a comfortable three strokes. Coming into the final round tied for the lead with two other golfers, Hill had the second-lowest round of any golfer. In Sunday's round, Hill shot a three-under (69). He tallied five birdies on the day, but it was his performance on the back-nine which won him the tournament. Hill carded a three-under on the final nine holes of the day, with four birdies. While holding a slight lead going into hole No. 16, Hill registered birdies on two of the final three holes to give him the insurmountable lead and his second tournament win in as many weekends the Pack has been in action.

Cavalier Golfers Finish 11th at Schenkel Invitational

Statesboro, GA - The Virginia men's golf team finished the Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational in 11th place after shooting 7-over 295 during Sunday's final round. The Cavaliers completed their third spring tournament at 21-over 885. South Carolina finished at the top of the 18-team field at 1-over 865. The event was held at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga. Virginia, which is ranked No. 50 in the latest Golfstat standings, finished ahead of four teams ranked above it in the poll. The tournament included 10 teams ranked in Golfstat's top-50. The first place Gamecocks are No. 16 in the poll. Tennessee, ranked No. 15 and No. 14 NC State tied for second at 867 while No. 9 Florida was fourth at 870. Virginia was led by senior Conrad Von Borsig's 20th-place finish at 2-over 218. He shot 1-under 71 during the final round. It marked the first time since the 2007 ACC Championships that he has been the Cavaliers' top finisher. It was the eighth time in his four-year career he has led the team in scoring.

Tar Heels Finish Seventh at Schenkel E-Z-Go

Statesboro, Ga. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team finished in seventh place with a 15-over-par 879 total at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational. After Friday's disappointing 14-over-par score, the Tar Heels improved to seventh place on Saturday. On Sunday Carolina finished five-over for the day and held on to a spot in the top half of the field for the weekend. Carolina was led on Sunday by sophomore Kevin O'Connell who birdied five holes in the final round of play. The University of South Carolina won the tournament. After finishing the second round of the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in 23rd place, O'Connell fired a four-under par 68 to finish tied for fourth place in the tournament. The Cary native carded a two-under 214 total. O'Connell was the only Tar Heel to finish the tournament below par. Sophomore Henry Zaytoun III placed tied for 39th after shooting a four-over 76 on Sunday. The Raleigh native carded a 222 total. Chase MacFarland, a junior from Savannah, Ga. who birdied seven holes on Saturday, shot a 76 on Sunday and finished in a tied for 42nd place with a 223 total.
