02/08/08 UH-Hilo Invitational Waikoloa, Hawaii Georgia Tech Golf Team Finishes Fourth at Hilo Cameron Tringale shot a 2-under-par 68 and Chesson Hadley a 1-under 69 Friday to secure top-10 finishes individually, and Georgia Tech finished fourth in the team race at the UH-Hilo Invitational golf tournament in Waikoloa, Hawai'i. Tringale's 68 gave him a 54-hole total of 200, good for fourth place at 10 shots under par and three behind medalist Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State, who shot 66 Friday and finished at 13-under 197. Tringale, a junior from Laguna Niguel, Calif., collected his highest finish of the year and his second top-10 showing. Hadley's 69 Friday left him at 7-under 203 in a tie for ninth place, and the sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., extended his string of top-10 finishes to seven straight events. Hadley is rated the fourth-best player in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
02/10/08 SunTrust Gator Invitational Gainesville, Fla. Seminoles Finish In 2nd Place At Season-Opening Gator Invitational The No. 13 Florida State men's golf team, with three individuals earning top-10 placings, finished in second place in the final standings at the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course. Senior All-American Jonas Blixt and sophomore Seath Lauer finished in a tied for sixth place while freshman Drew Kittleson finished in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings. Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) earned his 13th career top-10 finish as he closed the event with a three-under par total of 207. His 207 total ranks as the best three-round score of his career and is six strokes better than his 213 total which earned him medalist honors at the 2007 Gator Invitational. Blixt carded back-to-back scores of 67 in the first and second rounds of the event. Schachner Claims Share Of Individual Title At SunTrust Gator Invitational Senior Michael Schachner fired a three-under 67 in the final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday to earn a share of the individual tournament title with a seven-under 203 in the 54-hole event. As a team, Duke shot a three-over 283 in the final round to finish tied for sixth overall. Freshman Matthew Pierce shot an even-par 70 in the third round, finishing the day with three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys. Pierce ended the event tied for 23rd, the second top 25 finish of his career. Clark Klaasen, who missed Saturday's action with a neck injury, shot a two-over 72 in the third round. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native opened with nine straight pars before carding a birdie on No. 1. He added another birdie on No. 5 to move to two-under before running into trouble on the 207-yard, par 3 sixth hole. Klaasen finished with a seven on the hole to slip to two-over, but recovered to finish par-par-par. Wake Forest Ties for Sixth at Gator Invitational The 18th-ranked Wake Forest men's golf team salvaged a sixth-place tie after carding a 287 in the final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational Sunday in Gainesville, Fla. The Demon Deacons climbed five spots in the final two rounds and were 14th out of 14 teams midway through the first round. Sophomore Brendan Gielow led the way for the Deacs, shooting a 71-68-69=208 (-2) to finish in a tie for ninth place overall. This is the fourth time this season Gielow has been the top finisher for Wake Forest. He posted 13 birdies in the two-day event, a team best.
