Tringale Rallies for Top-10 Finish at Hilo, Jackets Finsih Ninth

Cameron Tringale fired a 5-under-par 67 Friday to finish in a tie for 10th individually, while 10th-ranked Georgia Tech posted a 5-under 283 for the day and finished ninth at the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate.

Tringale, who posted his seventh round of par or better and his fifth round of 15 in the 60s this year, advanced 13 spots and tied with Tom Hoge of TCU at 2-under-par 214, four shots off the lead. The Laguna Niguel, Calif., senior earned his fourth top-10 finish in five tournaments this year.

Fellow senior David Dragoo, improving a stroke each round of the tournament, fired a 1-under 71 Friday and wound up in a tie for 12th place at even-par 216. It was the third top-20 finish in five events this year for the Scottsdale, Ariz., native.

The two seniors paced Tech on a day when the prevailing winds calmed and the Jackets' 283 total was better by only two teams. Tech finished at 15-over 879 for the tournament, 28 shots behind Southern California.

Seminole Men's Golf Team Completes Play At Vulcan Intercollegiate

Senior All-American Matt Savage led Florida State with a four-under par 68 and the Seminole men's golf team posted the fourth best team score of the final day of play to finish in a tie for 10th place at the spring-season opening University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcan Invitational at the Mauna Lani Resort.

Savage finished the tournament with a personal tournament-best four-under par 68 and in a tie for 65th place in the final individual standings. He played his best golf of the three-round tournament in the final round after carding uncharacteristic scores of 81 in the first and second rounds. Savage's 68 in the final round allowed him to improve his individual placing by 31 positions after his first and second round scores.
