Florida State Has Two More Practices Before Sugar Bowl On Tuesday
Dec. 31, 1999 NEW ORLEANS -- The top-ranked Florida State Seminoles closed out the century with a two and a half hour practice Friday afternoon at the Superdome. FSU will have two practices remaining in preparation for the National Championship Sugar Bowl game against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Tuesday, January 4th. The Seminoles practiced in shorts and shoulder pads for 18 periods on Friday. Prior to practice, the team took a team photo and participated in the Nokia Sugar Bowl's Media Day. Highlights from the team's third practice in New Orleans came mainly from the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Chris Weinke connected with tight end Ryan Sprague for a touchdown and running back Nick Maddox scored on a 30-yard run during 11-on-11 drills. Also during 11-on-11 drills between the first team defense and offense, wide receiver Anquan Boldin caught two passes and linebacker Tommy Polley had two third down stops. Injury Report: Junior safety Jean Jeune sprained his right ankle early in practice. The Seminoles will return to practice on Saturday, January 1st at 10 a.m. in the Superdome.
