Plano, Texas - Dr Pepper, a leading brand in the beverage portfolio of Plano, Texas-based Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB) and a long-time supporter of college football, is thrilled to be giving fans from across the country the chance to compete for up to $1 million in the Dr Pepper Football Championship Challenge.
The $1 million competition will take place at the Dr Pepper ACC, the Dr Pepper Big 12, and the SEC Championship Games, which are all scheduled for Saturday, December 3. At halftime of each of those games, on national television, one fan will be able to compete for up to $1 million by successfully throwing footballs into an oversized Dr Pepper can replica. The three finalists will emerge from a preliminary competition held the day before the championship games, featuring semi-finalists from the Dr Pepper Football Championship Challenge program.
To help maximize the experience, a host of former college football stars are offering tips to contestants as they prepare for the preliminary competition. Charlie Ward and Jason White will both be on hand at the Dr Pepper Big 12 title game, while Gino Torretta and Jay Barker will be at the Dr Pepper ACC and the SEC Championship games, respectively.
"We are proud of our long history of involvement in college football, and also of providing our consumers with very memorable experiences," said Andrew Springate, vice president of Dr Pepper marketing. "The Dr Pepper Football Championship Challenge gives fans the chance to compete on the field during halftime at one of the biggest college football games of the year - it is truly an experience of a lifetime," added Springate.
Consumers qualified for the chance to compete by entering online with codes found under the caps of Dr Pepper two-liter and 20 oz. bottles and inside specially marked Dr Pepper Football 12 packs or through participating retailer promotions.
