Nov. 17, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Maryland Offensive Lineman Edwin Williams and Miami Defensive Lineman Marcus Robinson headline the Atlantic Coast Conference Football Players of the Week for the games of Nov. 13 and 15. Williams anchored the Maryland line that held North Carolina's defensive rush to just one sack on 31 passing attempts. Robinson was a force off the end in his second career start, sacking Virginia Tech's quarterback three times in the win. Joining them this week are Clemson Running Back C.J. Spiller, Boston College Defensive Back Marcellus Bowman and Miami Kicker Matt Bosher and NC State Quarterback Russell Wilson. Williams claimed Offensive Lineman of the Week honors as he anchored the Maryland line in the Terrapins' 17-15 win over North Carolina. The senior center played in all 85 snaps and helped open holes for the Terrapin running backs Da'Rel Scott (129) and Davin Meggett (86) to rush for a combined 215 yards. Robinson was named Defensive Lineman of the Week as the Hurricane defense held Virginia Tech to 77 yards on the ground in their 16-14 win on Thursday night. He recorded a career-high three sacks in only his second career start. Clemson's Spiller also gained 71 yards on the ground off 10 rushes to claim Offensive Back of the Week honors. He added a pair of punt returns for 22 yards to give him 201 all-purpose yards on 19 touches. His 83-yard reception was the longest pass reception by a Clemson rusher and the fourth-longest touchdown reception in Clemson history. Boston College's Bowman secured Defensive Back of the Week honors after he scored an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Eagles' win over Florida State. The junior also notched a sack to force the Seminoles to kick a field goal in the second quarter. Miami's Matt Bosher earned Specialist of the Week honors by averaging 42.0 yards on five punts in the Hurricane's 16-14 win over Virginia Tech on Thursday night. He was also a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts with kicks from 21, 31 and 23 yards, including the eventual game winning field goal. NC State's Wilson was 16-of-33 through the air without an interception to take Rookie of the Week honors. He now has 175 consecutive completions without an interception, the second-longest streak in school history and only four shy of the NC State record.
