Atlantic Coast Conference Announces ACC Football Players of the Week for October 20

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Maryland Quarterback Chris Turner and Miami Quarterback Jacory Harris headline the Atlantic Coast Conference Football Players of the Week for the games of Oct. 16-18. Turner threw for a season-high 321 yards and a touchdown, against Wake Forest. Harris was responsible for five touchdowns (4 pass, 1 rush) in the Hurricanes win over Duke. Joining them this week are Maryland Tackle Bruce Campbell, Virginia Linebacker Jon Copper, Boston College Linebacker Mark Herzlich and Florida State Placekicker Graham Gano. Maryland’s Turner went 28-for-41 through the air to claim the Offensive Back of the Week award. He threw for 321 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions on Saturday against Wake Forest. Harris was 18-for-28 with 185 yards passing with four touchdowns to earn his second Rookie of the Week honor. He added another score on a 15-yard run in the third quarter. Campbell claimed Offensive Lineman of the Week honors in his second career start. He helped anchor the Terrapin offense that gained 470 yards and did not allow a quarterback sack. Virginia’s Jon Copper was named Defensive Lineman of the Week with a career-high 16 tackles, 10 solos and one for a loss in Virginia’s 16-13 overtime win over North Carolina. Boston College’s Herzlich was named Defensive Back of the Week as he led all defenders with 13 tackles in the Eagles’ win over 17th ranked Virginia Tech. Gano took Specialist of the Week honors as he made four field goals to extend his streak of consecutive three-pointers to 10. For the third straight game, he converted on a try of 52 yards or more.
