Micah Harris, a rising senior on the Duke University football team, died tragically in a one-vehicle automobile accident late Friday morning in Virginia. He was 21 years old.

A native of Poland, Ohio, and 2001 graduate of Poland Seminary, Harris was traveling northbound on Interstate 85 when his car exited the highway and struck a tree. Police indicated that he was killed immediately upon impact.

Harris played in 34 career games for the Blue Devils making 22 starts as an outside linebacker and defensive end. For his career, he recorded 124 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 6.5 quarterback sacks and one interception.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.

STATEMENT FROM DUKE HEAD COACH Ted Roof: "Yesterday a very tragic and unfortunate event took place as Micah Harris was killed in an auto accident in Virginia on the way to visit a friend. Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with his parents, family and friends. Micah was a great kid who was well liked and respected by his teammates and coaches. He will be sorely missed by the Duke Football family. This is just another cruel event that reminds us how fragile and precious life really is."
