HOUSTON (AP) - Greg Gatlin intercepted D. Bryant's pass with 24 seconds left as Rice held off two Duke rallies in the final two minutes for a 15-13 victory Saturday night.

The Blue Devils (0-2) pulled within two points on Bryant's 3-yard pass to Nick Brzezinski with 1:36 left, but Bryant fumbled the snap on the 2-point conversion try. Ronnie Hamilton's 28-yard punt return to the Rice 37 with 1:49 remaining set up the score.

Duke got the ball back with 40 seconds remaining, but Gatlin intercepted Bryant's pass at the Rice 35.

The Owls (2-0) had taken a 15-7 lead on their first possession of the second half, driving 64 yards in 11 plays. Jamie Tyler's 1-yard run capped an 11-play, 64-yard drive.

Kyle Herm completed 11 of 18 passes for 116 yards and ran for 29 yards, including a 1-yarder that capped a nine-play, 49-yard drive for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

Duke moved ahead 7-6 on Chris Douglas' 5-yard run the first play after Bryant completed a 33-yard pass to Calen Powell.

Brandon Skeen's 22-yard field goal gave Rice its 9-7 halftime lead.

The Blue Demons blew another scoring opportunity late in the second quarter. They drove to the Rice 3 but Trey McDonald bobbled a low snap on a field goal attempt.

Bryant was 15-of-25 for 189 yards, and Chris Wade carried 30 times for 112 yards for Duke.

Duke outgained Rice 328-270, but lost three turnovers to one for Rice.
