December 11, 1957
Guard Bill Yarborough leads Clemson to a 96-94 overtime victory over No. 8 NC State in Fike Gym on the Tigers' campus. It's the first victory over a ranked opponent in Clemson basketball history.

December 11, 1965
The longest game in ACC history begins as NC State visits Wake Forest. The contest would not be completed until Feb. 23, 1966. The game is delayed and then suspended with 10:05 left in the first half by a transformer fire in the lobby at the Winston-Salem Memorial Auditorium. When play resumes more than two months later, NC State finishes up its 101-75 victory.

December 11, 1971
Barry Parkhill becomes the fourth ACC player to top 50 points in a game when he pours in 51 points in Virginia's 117-83 victory over Baldwin-Wallace. That's still the sixth highest single-game total in ACC history and it remains the Virginia school record.

December 11, 1982
In a match-up of superstar big men, Virginia and Ralph Sampson get the best of Georgetown and Patrick Ewing. The Cavaliers defeat the Hoyas, 68-63, in the Capital Centre in Landover, Md., in front of a national TV audience. The 7-4 Sampson emerges with a clear personal victory over the 7-1 Ewing, outscoring his rival, 23-16, and outrebounding him, 16-8.

December 13, 1975
Sophomore Tree Rollins has the first "triple-double" in Clemson history, and the third in ACC annals, with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots in a 103-64 victory over Presbyterian. The 7-1 center would add another triple-double two years later when he had 16 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 67-63 victory over Duke.

December 14, 2002
NC State's Julius Hodge turns in the first "triple-double" in Wolfpack history, and the 18th in ACC annals, when the 6-6 sophomore has 12 rebounds, 11 points and 10 assists in a 101-63 victory over North Carolina A&T. The game is the Pack's annual Heritage Game, played at Reynolds Coliseum instead of the RBC Center.

December 15, 1991
Florida State makes its ACC debut, upsetting No. 5 North Carolina, 86-74, in the Smith Center in Chapel Hill. The Seminoles get the win without injured star Douglas Edwards. But future pro Sam Cassell pours in 22 points to lead the visitors and future Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward adds 18 as the 'Noles hands the 6-0 Tar Heels their first loss of the season.

December 16, 1955
Clemson wins its first-ever ACC game after 26 straight losses in the league, edging Virginia, 75-73, in Fike Gym on the Tiger campus. Sophomore Vince Yockel scores a team-high 21 points and Bill Yarborough adds 19 for the Tigers. Senior Bob McCarty scores a game-high 27 points for the Cavaliers.

December 17, 1962
North Carolina, coming off a loss at Indiana, defeats favored Kentucky 68-66 on the Wildcats' homecourt in Lexington, Ky.. Point guard Larry Brown, with 17 points, keys the Tar Heel offense and unheralded Yogi Poteet shuts down Kentucky's Cotton Nash, holding the All-American to 12 points. It's only the 15th homecourt loss in 21 seasons for Wildcat head coach Adolph Rupp.

December 18, 1956
Duke rallies from a 15-point deficit to edge No. 7 Kentucky, 85-84, in front of a raucous crowd at Duke Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils trail all the way, but score the game's last 10 points, forcing four Kentucky turnovers in the final 50 seconds. Guard Bobby Joe Harris had two steals in the final 30 seconds and his steal and pass ahead to Bucky Allen produce the go-ahead layup.

December 20, 1978
Ernest Graham scores 44 points to lead Maryland to a 124-110 victory over No. 4 ranked NC State in the highest scoring ACC game ever played. The matchup is the first between the two rivals since the 1978 ACC Tournament first round, when the Terps scored a 109-108 victory over the Wolfpack in triple-overtime in the highest scoring ACC Tournament game ever played.

December 20, 2003
No. 14-ranked Wake Forest upsets No. 4 North Carolina, 119-114, in triple overtime in the Smith Center in one of the most exciting regular season games in league history. A total of 13 players score in double figures, including seven for the Deacons and six for the Tar Heels. Rashad McCants scores 25 to lead UNC, while point guard Raymond Felton adds 22 points and 11 assists. However, Wake Forest gets 24 points from center Eric Williams and 20 from guard Justin Gray, while freshman point guard Chris Paul contributes 18 points and eight assists. The 233 total points are one off the ACC record of 234 set by Maryland and N.C. State exactly 25 years earlier.
