Greensboro Awarded 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball First and Second Rounds
Sept. 21, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference and the Greensboro Coliseum have been selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship in 2012, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee announced Monday. "We are honored to be selected to host the first and second rounds of the 2012 NCAA Tournament,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “The Greensboro Coliseum has proven to be an outstanding venue for this event. The support of the city and the fans has always been terrific.” The ACC and the Greensboro Coliseum have hosted NCAA Tournament games 12 times previously, including the 1974 Final Four, three East Regionals (1976, 1979, 1998) and eight First and Second Rounds (1980, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1992, 2001, 2006 and 2009). In addition, the Coliseum and the ACC have hosted three NCAA Women’s Basketball Regionals in 1999, 2007 and 2008. The Coliseum has also been the site of 21 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournaments and 10 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournaments. The 57th annual ACC Tournament is slated for March 11-14, 2010.
