CINCINNATI, Ohio - University of Virginia men's head basketball coach Pete Gillen will be inducted into the Xavier University Athletic Hall of Fame in November of 2002.

Gillen is Xavier's winningest men's head basketball coach. His Xavier teams compiled an overall record of 202-75 (.729) in his nine seasons as head coach. Eight of Gillen's nine Xavier teams participated in postseason play, including seven NCAA Tournament invitations. The Musketeers competed in six consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 1986-91 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) during Gillen's final season at Xavier in 1994.

Xavier won six Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) regular season championships and five MCC Tournament Championships under Gillen's direction. He was named the MCC Coach of the Year five times. The Musketeers won at least 20 games in a season seven times during his tenure.

Gillen is in his fifth year as the men's head basketball coach at the University of Virginia. His four Virginia teams have compiled an overall record of 70-49 and have participated in postseason play each of the last three seasons. The Cavaliers competed in the NCAA Tournament in 2001, and in the NIT in 2000 and 2002.

After leaving Xavier, Gillen was the men's head basketball coach at Providence College for four years before coming to Virginia.
