ATLANTA - A wrist injury sustained in a pickup game last month may sideline Georgia Tech basketball player Mouhammad Faye for the first month of the 2006-07 season, Yellow Jackets' head coach Paul Hewitt said Tuesday.

The 6-8 forward from Dakar, Senegal injured his right wrist in a fall during a pickup game on June 13. A magnetic resonance imaging test revealed a damaged ligament, and Faye underwent surgery Friday to repair it.

The wrist will be immobilized for three months, with 6-to-8 weeks of therapy to follow before he can return to the court.

"It's unfortunate for him and for us," said Hewitt, "but by having surgery now, he will be able to rehab it and be ready for the busy part of our season."

Faye, a red-shirt freshman, enrolled at Tech last fall and practiced with the team following the end of fall semester.
