![]() Glover Will Wait by His Phone on Draft Night
June 30, 1999 ATLANTA (AP) - Dion Glover isn't sure whether or not he'll be a first-round pick in Wednesday night's NBA Draft. Still, no matter what happens, he believes it was the right choice to leave school early. Glover wrecked his left knee in Tech's first practice last fall, forcing him to sit out the season. He was the third-leading freshman scorer in the nation in 1997-98, averaging 18.4 points. "Dion's definitely a pro player," Tech coach Bobby Cremins said. "This is his dream." Glover has been declared fit by a couple of physicians, but he declined to work out for NBA teams. When last seen on the court, he displayed tremendous athleticism but the need for a more consistent jump shot. Any player taken in the first round receives a guaranteed three-year contract worth seven figures. Second-round picks get six-figure contracts that are not guaranteed. Glover could return to Tech if he wasn't drafted at all, but that's an unlikely scenario. Glover wavered on his decision after announcing in May he was leaving Tech. He told at least one teammate that he was coming back and met with Cremins to discuss his options. In the end, Glover decided to remain in the draft.
"It's Dion's decision," said his father, the Rev. Franklin
Glover. "He's the one who has to live with it."
