Georgia Tech head basketball coach Paul Hewitt has signed a new five-year contract that will keep him at Tech at least through the 2007-08 season, Director of Athletics Dave Braine announced Monday.

"I've always said that Georgia Tech is my dream job," said Hewitt. "This is a great school, and my family and I are very happy here.

"I look forward to continuing to build the program. We're proud of what we've accomplished so far, but there's much more to do."

Hewitt just completed his third season with the Yellow Jackets, compiling a record of 48-44 (.527). He has led the Jackets to postseason play in two of his first three years, including the NCAA Tournament in 2001 and the National Invitation Tournament this past season, while his 2002 narrowly missed a postseason invitation. His six-year head coaching record stands at 114-71 (.533), including three years at Siena before taking over the Tech program in 2000-01.

"Paul Hewitt is the perfect fit for Georgia Tech," said Braine. "He understands what it takes to be successful here, and we are all very excited about the future of the program."
