Duke Men's Basketball to Celebrate 100th Season
June 29, 2004 DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke men's basketball program will celebrate its 100th season in 2004-05. On June 29, the Duke Athletic Department unveiled its "Legacy of Achievement" logo to officially begin the 100-season celebration. "We are excited to showcase the outstanding tradition of our basketball program throughout the 2004-05 season," said Duke Director of Athletics Joe Alleva. "The first 99 seasons have been extremely rich with tradition for Duke basketball. This season will be a time to reflect upon the great teams, players, coaches and moments in Duke history, while establishing more tradition at the same time with our current team." There will be several projects surrounding the 100-year celebration of Duke basketball, including but not limited to:
The Duke basketball program is among the strongest in the history of the game. The Blue Devils captured three national championships (1991, 1992 and 2001) and made 14 Final Four appearances, second all-time. Duke's 10 Final Four appearances over the past 19 seasons are the most by any school (four more than the next closest school, Kansas). On an individual basis, Duke has produced eight National Players of the Year, five National Defensive Players of the Year, 31 All-Americas, nine Academic All-Americas and 25 NBA first round draft choices. The Blue Devils' coach for the past 24 seasons, Mike Krzyzewski, has been named National Coach of the Year 13 times in nine different seasons. ![]()
