COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland senior men's basketball players Terence Morris and Mike Mardesich will be watching NBA Draft coverage on Wednesday evening, just like anyone else with interests in pro basketball's annual selection of amateur stars.
Morris and Mardesich, though, fresh off a 2001 Final Four appearance with the Terrapins in March, will be awaiting the chance to hear their own names called as NBA Commissioner David Stern announces each of the league's 56 selections.
Following are career notes on each of Maryland's draft hopefuls:
Terence Morris
6-9, 221, Sr., Frederick, Md. (Thomas Johnson)
2000-01 Season
* Honorable mention All-American who averaged 12.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.2 blocks per game.
* Listed among Maryland all-time leaders in games (2nd), blocks (2nd), steals (8th), 3FGs (8th), rebounds (4th) and points (8th).
* Along with teammate Mike Mardesich, played in a school-record 13 NCAA Tournament games during his career.
* For second consecutive season, was one of 15 finalists named for the Naismith national player of the year.
* Finished career No. 8 on Maryland's career scoring chart (1,733) and No. 4 (925) on career rebounding chart.
* Had multiple blocked shots in 24 of 36 games this season, and in 66 games in his last three seasons. He has had three or more blocks in 43 of those games.
* Made 101 3-point field goals in his career.
* Preseason candidate for the Naismith and Wooden national player of the year awards, a consensus first team Preseason All-American, and rated among the nation's top two swing forwards.
1999-00 Season
* All-American honorable mention selection by the Associated Press following his junior season and for the third straight year. One of 15 finalists for the Naismith Award.
* All-ACC second team while recording a career-high 12 double-doubles.
* First Terp since Joe Smith in 1995 to post four consecutive double-doubles (Feb. 2-13).
1997-98 and 1998-99 Seasons
* All-America honorable mention as a sophomore in 1998-99 while helping Maryland to a school record 28 wins.
* First team All-ACC selection was No. 2 on team in scoring (15.3) and FG% (55.1), and first in rebounding (7.1), and blocks (77).
* Only the fourth sophomore in Maryland history named first team All-ACC (also Tom McMillen, John Lucas and Joe Smith).
Mike Mardesich
7-0, 244, Sr., Boston, Mass. (Conroe (Texas)/Worcester Academy)
2000-01 Season
* Senior tri-captain who averaged 3.6 ppg and 2.6 rpg in his final collegiate season.
* Along with teammate Terence Morris, appeared in a school-record 13 NCAA Tournament games in his career.
* Played in a school-record 137 games (every one of his career), breaking mark of 131 set from 1984-86 by Len Bias.
* Surpassed 500-point plateau for career on March 17 (finished with 512).
* Enjoying the best shooting season of his career (.473) as a senior.
* Played in more Terp ACC regular season victories (44) and overall victories (99) than any player in school history.
* 74 career blocks rank 13th in Terrapin history.
1999-00 Season
* Appeared in a career-high 35 games as a reserve and averaged 2.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
* Top game of the year vs. North Carolina on Feb. 26: 10 points, five rebounds, 5 of 6 FGA in 19 minutes.
1998-99, 1997-98 and 1996-97 Seasons
* Sophomore reserve center averaged 3.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg in 1998-99.
* Twice matched his career-scoring high as a sophomore, totaling 12 points vs. W. Carolina and North Texas.
