Senior guard Engin Atsür of the NC State men's basketball team has been invited to compete for a sport on the Turkish National Team that will compete at the FIBA World Championships later this summer. The 24-team FIBA World Championships are held every four years, and this year will take play in Japan from August 19-September 3. A total of 24 players have been invited by Turkey to training camp, and the roster will be trimmed to 12 for the round-robin tournament. Atsür is just one of two players invited that currently plays in college in the U.S., Hilmi Diac of Indiana is the other.
Atsür is the leading returning scorer (10.8 ppg) for a Wolfpack squad that finished 22-10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago. He lead last years squad with 109 assists, and was second with his 67 made three-point field goals. Atsür is approaching 1,000 career points, as he enters his final season with 911.
