ACC Basketball Players of the Week for March 9

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Toney Douglas has been named ACC Player of the Week and Wake Forest’s Al-Farouq Aminu is the ACC Rookie of the Week. Douglas, a senior guard from Jonesboro, Ga., averaged 24.5 points and five assists last week as the Seminoles (23-8, 10-6) split a pair of league contests to nail down a fourth-place regular-season finish and a bye in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, which gets under way Thursday in Atlanta. Douglas scored 27 points and handed out seven assists as the 24th-ranked Seminoles pushed seventh-ranked Duke to the limit before dropping an 84-81 decision last Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Playing his final home game on Sunday, Douglas delivered 22 points, handed out three assists and grabbed five rebounds as Florida State turned back Virginia Tech by a 63-53 score. Aminu, of Norcross, Ga., posted two double-doubles and averaged 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds last week to lead Wake Forest to a pair of league wins. Aminu began the week with 16 points and a career-best 14 rebounds to lead the Deacons to a 65-63 road win at Maryland on Tuesday. He pulled down six offensive rebounds and also had two assists and two blocks against the Terps. Aminu posted his second straight double-double with game-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds in Wake Forest’s 96-88 defeat of Clemson on Sunday. He went 7-for-10 from the floor and had two blocks in the win. On the week, Aminu shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the field and made 10-of-13 free throws. - ACC -
