GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After setting the ACC freshman single-game scoring record with 40 points in last Wednesday's win over Georgia Tech, North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough has been named ACC Rookie of the Week. In earning the award for the eighth time this season, the Poplar Bluff, Mo., native averaged 28.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a pair of conference wins.
In the 82-75 win over the Yellow Jackets, Hansbrough made 13-of-17 from the floor and 14-of-19 from the free throw line and pulled down 10 rebounds. Four days later Hansbrough had 17 points, six rebounds and one steal in an 83-72 win at Wake Forest. Hansbrough has scored 14 or more points in 18 straight games and leads all ACC freshmen in scoring (18.9) and rebounds (7.7).
Hansbrough's eight ACC Rookie-of-the-Week honors are a Carolina record, eclipsing the six honors earned by Sam Perkins in 1980-81. The eight awards are second in ACC history behind Kenny Anderson's 10 selections in 1989-90.
