The Wolfpack upsets #10 ranked North Carolina at Reynolds Coliseum. North Carolina forward, Brian Reese fights hard, scoring 22 points, however the Tar Heels would come up short. Tom Gugliotta puts up extraordinary numbers with 36 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocked shots and 4 steals, leading the Wolfpack to a 99-88 win over North Carolina.

In Coach Dean Smith's final ACC Tournament appearance, the Tar Heels beat the Wolfpack 64-54. NC State became the first team in ACC history to make it to the championship game after playing in the play-in game. Tournament MVP, Shammond Williams, scored 23-points and 6 rebounds, ending NC State's Cinderella run to the finals.
