North Carolina's York Larese converts an ACC-record 21-of-21 free throws in a 75-53 victory over Duke in the semifinals of the Dixie Classic in Raleigh. The junior guard would shoot 86.8 from the foul line that season, an ACC single-season record that would stand for almost a decade, until broken by Wake Forest's Charlie Davis in his sophomore season of 1968-69.

N.C. State upsets No. 2 ranked Cincinnati and All-American Oscar Robertson, 69-60, in the semifinals of the Dixie Classic in Raleigh. One night later, the Wolfpack knocks off No. 7 Michigan State and All-American Johnny Green, 70-61, in the Classic's championship game. Earlier that afternoon, Wake Forest stops Cincinnati in the tournament's consolation game, sending the powerful Bearcats home with a 1-2 record on Tobacco Road. The Dixie Classic - a Christmas Tournament that matched the ACC's four North Carolina members against four national powers - ran 11 seasons from 1950 to 1960 and every title was won by a North Carolina school.

NC State upsets No. 1 North Carolina, 90-70, in Raleigh as guard Lakista McCuller his six 3-pointers and scores 24 points, while center Todd Fuller adds 16 points and 11 rebounds. Twenty-four miles away in Durham, Clemson, projected to finish last in the ACC, stuns No. 11 Duke, 75-70, as all seven Tigers that see action hit 3-pointers.
