Tar Heels Win Maui Invitational, Defeat Notre Dame 102-87

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) -- Tyler Hansbrough looked like his old self and North Carolina looked like the unanimous No. 1.

The reigning national player of the year who had played in only two games this season because of leg injuries, Hansbrough had 34 points to lead the top-ranked Tar Heels to a 102-87 victory over No. 8 Notre Dame on Wednesday night in the championship game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

Hokies pull away from Elon down the stretch

The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team scored on its final 15 possessions and used some stellar free-throw shooting down the stretch to break away from Elon 76-67 in a non-conference game played Wednesday night at Cassell Coliseum.

With the win, the Hokies moved to 4-2 overall on the season. Elon, which was picked to finish second in the Southern Conference’s North Division, fell to 1-3.

BC Men's Basketball Falls to No. 11 Purdue

NEW YORK (AP) - -E'Twaun Moore scored 19 points and No. 10 Purdue withstood a late rally to beat Boston College 71-64 on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

JaJuan Johnson added 12 points, Keaton Grant had 11 and Robbie Hummel 10 for the Boilermakers (5-0), who led by 19 with about 6 1/2 minutes left before the Eagles started whittling the lead.
