Miami Routs San Diego to Claim Third Place in Paradise Jam

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) - After a hard-fought loss in the semifinals, Miami (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, No. 22 AP) responded with a dominating victory over San Diego.

Brian Asbury scored 14 points to lead four Miami players in double figures in the 80-45 win Monday night.

    Tar Heels Trounce Silverswords, 115-70

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) - Senior Danny Green scored a career-high 26 points and No. 1 North Carolina, again playing without Tyler Hansbrough, beat Chaminade 115-70 on Monday night in the opening round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

Hansbrough missed three weeks of practice and the first two games of the season with a stress reaction in his right shin, and the reigning player of the year wasn't expected to play all three games in the three-day tournament. He played 25 minutes and had 13 points Friday against UC Santa Barbara, but didn't see any time against the Division II host school.

Demon Deacons Cruise to Victory, 62-31

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Jeff Teague scored 14 points and No. 19 Wake Forest shook off a sloppy first half to beat Winston-Salem State 62-31 on Monday night.

The Demon Deacons (3-0) shot 68 percent in the second half, held the Rams (0-3) to one field goal during a 15 1/2-minute stretch and forced them into a Joel Coliseum-record scoring low in completing a three-game sweep of instate mid-majors.
