No. 21 Tech Takes Care of Mason, 70-62
A friendly rivalry between teammates Gani Lawal and Derrick Favors means trouble for opponents of No. 21 Georgia Tech.

The two big men each scored 18 points and added three blocks apiece Friday to lead the Yellow Jackets (2-1) to a 70-62 victory over George Mason on Friday in the consolation round of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Favors scored six of his points in a 13-0 run, capped by one of his dunks, that gave the Yellow Jackets a 43-23 lead with 15 minutes to play. The Patriots (2-2) got no closer than six points the rest of the way.

No. 25 Maryland Cruises to Victory Over New Hampshire, 82-55
A convincing win over New Hampshire put No. 25 Maryland in the proper frame of mind for a business trip to Hawaii.

Landon Milbourne scored a career-high 24 points, and the Terrapins cruised to an 82-55 victory Friday night in their final tuneup for the Maui Invitational.

Sophomore guard Sean Mosley had 13 points and a personal-best 10 assists for his first career double-double, and Eric Hayes scored 15 for Maryland (3-0). After three straight blowouts at home, the Terrapins head to Hawaii to play three games in three days, beginning Tuesday. 

Hurricanes Top Seahawks, 67-60
Malcolm Grant scored 18 points to lead Miami over UNC Wilmington, 67-60, as the Hurricanes advance to Sunday's Charleston Classic title game.

The Hurricanes (4-0) led 62-58 with 29 seconds to play and forced two Seahawks' turnovers to hold on and advance to the championship round of the Charleston Classic at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Trailing by 12 with 6:09 to play in the first half, Miami went on a 19-4 run and built a 27-26 lead at halftime. 

Tigers Rout Spartans, 89-67
Trevor Booker scored a season-high 17 points, and No. 22 Clemson routed North Carolina-Greensboro 89-67 on Friday night.

Milton Jennings added 14 points for the Tigers (3-0), Andre Young had 13 and David Potter finished with 11.

They shot 54.5 percent, broke it open by closing the first half with a huge run and extended their school-record winning streak in non-conference road games to 11.

NC State Downs Akron at Glenn Wilkes Classic, 66-45
The NC State men's basketball team used a hot-shooting first half, and downed Akron, 66-45, in the Pack's first game of the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., Friday afternoon.

NC State (2-0) matched the hot tempature in Daytona, starting the game on a 17-4 run over the first 6:34 of the contest. The Pack's lead would reach as much as 24 points at the 4:12 mark, and NC State would go into the half with a 43-21 lead making 68.0 percent (17-25) of its first half shots.

NC State made nine of its first 12 shots of the game, and on its 17 made field goals in the first half, the Pack had 12 assists.

Tar Heels Fall To Syracuse 87-71
Brandon Triche and Arinze Onuaku combined for 13 points in Syracuse's 22-1 run to open the second half and the Orange went on to a 87-71 victory over No. 6 North Carolina on Friday night in the championship game of the 2K Sports Classic.

The Orange (4-0) were the only unranked team in the semifinals of the tournament that benefits Coaches vs. Cancer but they left Madison Square Garden with blowout wins over No. 13 California and the Tar Heels (4-1).

North Carolina had a 39-37 halftime lead but that was gone in a hurry as Triche and Onuaku had field goals in the first 40 seconds. By the time the run ended 8 minutes into the second half Syracuse had a 59-40 lead.

Boston College Loses to Saint Joseph's, 84-80
Junior Joe Trapani tallied 20 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Reggie Jackson totaled 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Boston College in an 84-80 loss to Saint Joseph's in the first round of the Paradise Jam. The game was played in The Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.

The game between the two Jesuit institutions was also billed as part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. There will be more than 90 games played this winter between Jesuit schools.

BC trailed by two points - 82-80 - when Garrett Williamson sank one free throw with eight seconds to play. Senior Tyler Roche grabbed the rebound of Williamson's second free throw and Jackson streaked down the floor and into the lane, only to see his lay-in attempt to tie the game roll out of the hoop.
