Eagles Top Redstorm, 82-70

Boston (AP) - Joe Trapani scored seven of his 19 points during a game-breaking second-half run that led Boston College to an 82-70 quarterfinal win over St. John's Tuesday night in the NIT Season Tip-0ff tournament.

Tyrese Rice paced the Eagles (3-0) with 28 points and nine assists. It was the first meeting between the schools since BC bolted the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005. Rakim Sanders added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

Seminoles Hold Off Explorers, 65-61

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Sophomore guard Jordan DeMercy scored the game's last four points in the final 27 seconds and Florida State defeated La Salle 65-61 Tuesday night.

Toney Douglas had 18 points and Ryan Reid 11 for Florida State (2-0), the first school from the Atlantic Coast Conference to visit La Salle's Tom Gola Arena.

Maryland Collects Second Win of Season with Ease, Downing Youngstown State, 73-49

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Greivis Vasquez matched his career high with 28 points, and Maryland used a strong defensive performance to cruise past Youngstown State 73-49 Tuesday night.

The Terrapins (2-0) allowed one basket in the final eight minutes before halftime, turning a one-point lead into a 37-18 cushion. Vasquez scored 12 points during that span.

Top-Ranked Tar Heels Top Wildcats, 77-58

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Deon Thompson scored a career-high 20 points to help top-ranked North Carolina beat Kentucky 77-58 on Tuesday night despite playing yet again without national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough.

Wayne Ellington had 16 points for the Tar Heels (2-0), who led by double figures barely 4 minutes into the game and never looked back in a matchup of the winningest programs in men's college basketball.
