BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Guard Jamon Gordon had 10 points and 11 rebounds Sunday as Virginia Tech defeated Western Carolina 54-40 in the NABC Classic.

The Hokies (2-1) took a 6-2 lead, but the Catamounts went on a 12-0 run to gain the advantage. A Coleman Collins basket put the Hokies back in front 18-16, but the Catamounts (1-2) closed the half with a 7-2 run to take a 23-20 halftime lead.

Virginia Tech mad just 3 of 18 field goal attempts in the first half but stayed close by hitting 13 of 17 free throws.

A steal by Deron Washington and his two subsequent foul shots with 18:24 left put the Hokies ahead to stay, 24-23.

Markus Sails scored 13 points, and Washington and Zabian Dowdell had 10 apiece for the Hokies.

David Berghoefer led the Catamounts with 11 points.
