Tar Heels Hold Off Hokies 86-78 The Tar Heels (26-3, 12-3), who lead Duke by one game heading into their regular season finale on Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C., led almost throughout and took command with a 10-0 run that started with 5:03 to play--after the Hokies closed within one. Virginia Tech (17-12, 7-8) lost for the fifth time in six games, and once again saw their hopes of an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament dashed. The Hokies have lost seven of their last 10 games and they finish the regular season at Florida State on Sunday. McCauley's 20 points leads Pack over Boston College McCauley scored 20 points and had six rebounds for the Wolfpack, while Fells made the most of his only half of action, scoring 11 points in the opening period. Fells missed the entire second half with a mild groin injury. Fells hit three key 3-pointers and made four of his six shots in the opening period to help his team overcome an early lead by the Eagles. Dennis Horner, who replaced Fells in the lineup the second half, added 11 points, while sophomore Tracy Smith contributed 14. Georgia Tech Downs Miami 78-68 Clinch, a senior playing in his final home game, made 9 of 16 3-point attempts as Georgia Tech (11-17, 2-13 Atlantic Coast Conference) took its first win since beating Wake Forest on Jan. 31. Clinch's high mark for 3-pointers in an ACC game this season tied the second-highest total in school history, behind Dennis Scott's 11 against Houston on Dec. 28, 1988.
