Jan. 8, 2008 Maryland Overpowers Holy Cross, 73-48 COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - James Gist scored 22 points as Maryland routed a depleted Holy Cross squad 73-48 Tuesday night. The Terps (10-6) were playing without starting guard Eric Hayes, but the Crusaders (9-4) were without several players including starters Pat Doherty and Alex Vander Baan. By the time the first 12 minutes were over, however, it didn't much matter for either side after Maryland ran off a 20-0 run to put the Crusaders away early. It was Maryland's fourth win in a row after three losses and their final non-conference game of the season. Hayes did not start due to an ankle injury. Freshman Cliff Tucker started in his place and had 10 points and 4 assists, both career highs. Gist also led Maryland with nine rebounds. Greivis Vasquez had 17 points, six assists and six rebounds and Landon Milbourne had a career-high 12 points for Maryland.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Freshman Jeff Teague scored 14 of his season-high 26 points in the first half of Wake Forest's 79-62 win over Brigham Young on Tuesday night. Fellow rookie James Johnson added 19 points for the Demon Deacons (11-3), who wrapped up their nonconference schedule in surprisingly easy fashion, never trailing and leading by 19 early in the second half of their sixth straight victory and Atlantic Coast Conference-best 14th consecutive home win. Chas McFarland added 11 points before fouling out in the final minute and Ishmael Smith scored 10 for Wake Forest, which shot nearly 52 percent and locked down on the Cougars' scorers all night long. BYU, which entered shooting 48 percent, was held to 35.9 percent and committed 22 turnovers.
