Jeff Bzdelik returns for his second season as the Demon Deacon head coach armed with three returning starters and seven of the top nine scorers from a team that finished 8-24 a year ago and 12th in the ACC with a 1-15 league mark...keyed by Travis McKie's13.0 points per game average, Wake Forest freshmen averaged a league-high 28.7 points per game in ACC regular season play...the Deacons ranked second in the ACC and 16th nationally with 5.4 blocks per game...as a team, Wake Forest totaled 174 blocks on the season; the fourth-best total in school history...Forward Travis McKie was the 10th freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both scoring (13.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg); named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and received Freshman All-America honors from CollegeInsider.com... guard C.J. Harris ranked in the top 10 in the ACC in three categories: free throw percentage (4th, 81.5), assists (t-7th, 3.5) and minutes played (8th, 32.4); had 20 games with 10-or-more points and finished fourth on the team in scoring (10.3)...Carson Desrosiers ranked sixth in the ACC and 85th nationally with 1.7 blocks per game; his 52 blocks ranked 11th on the school's single-season list; started 22 games, including the last 19, averaging 4.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game...in 23 games, including five starts, Nikita Mescheriakov averaged 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds; played well down the stretch, averaging 9.8 points and 3.0 rebounds and shooting .552 percent from the field over the team's final four games...Tony Chennault missed 17 games with a broken left foot suffered in the team's season opener; averaged 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and led the team in assists five times...Ty Walker had a team-high 79 blocked shots and ranked second in the ACC and 20th nationally at 2.5 blocks per game; averaged 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game; despite registering just 13 blocks combined over his freshman and sophomore seasons, still ranks 13th on the school's career list with 92 blocks.

Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
Named the 21st head coach in Wake Forest history on April 14, 2010, Jeff Bzdelik enters his 34th season of coaching...Bzdelik has been involved in coaching college and professional basketball since 1978, including eight seasons as a college head coach and three seasons as the head coach of the NBA's Denver Nuggets...the Illinois native came to Wake Forest after spending three seasons as the head coach at the University of Colorado where he inherited a 7-20 (3-13 Big 12) team and improved to a game under .500 at 15-16 (6-10) by his third season with the Buffaloes...prior to his arrival in Colorado, Bzdelik served two seasons (2005-07) as the head coach at the Air Force Academy where he guided the Falcons to a 50-16 record (.758)...the 50 wins marked the most successful two-year period in Academy history and Bzdelik is the only coach in Academy history to have won 24 or more games in consecutive seasons...in his two seasons at Air Force, Bzdelik guided the Falcons to a 31-1 home record, including a 15-0 mark in 2005-06 and 16-1 in 2006-07...during his 15-year career in the NBA, Bzdelik made nine NBA Playoff appearances...in 2003-04, he engineered one of the biggest turnarounds in NBA history during his second season with Denver coaching the Nuggets to the playoffs for the first time since 1994-95 while posting a 43-39 record .. the 26-game improvement over the previous year was the sixth-best turnaround in NBA history...Bzdelik is a 1976 graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education...earning four varsity letters in basketball at UIC, he was named team MVP as a senior in 1975-76. |
