Entering his 21st season as head coach of his alma mater, Gary Williams stands third in Atlantic Coast Conference history and first in Maryland annals with 418 wins ... has directed the Terps to 13 NCAA Tournament berths over the past 16 seasons and has averaged 22.4 wins per season over that span ... with 625 career victories in 31 seasons overall, Williams is seventh among active head coaches in victories in Division I play; his 17 20-win seasons also rank seventh among active coaches ... led Maryland in 2004 to its first ACC Tournament title since 1984 and third overall ... named the 2002 ACC Coach of the Year after directing Maryland to its first NCAA championship with a 64-52 win over Indiana ... Coming off their 16th consecutive post-season appearance, the Terrapins return four starters, including second-team All-ACC guard Greivis Vasquez, from last year’s squad, which finished 21-14 overall and tied for seventh in the ACC with a 7-9 league mark ... posted three wins a year ago over teams ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll ... Gary Williams, 418-229 in his 20 years in College Park, is third all-time in victories among ACC coaches ... Williams has seven wins over No. 1 ranked teams in his career ... Terps have won at least 19 games in 13 straight seasons ... with four starters shooting 79 percent or better, Maryland led the ACC and ranked ninth nationally in free-throw percentage (.758) ... Terps lead all ACC teams with 274 career starts by returning lettermen ... heading the list of returnees is Vasquez, who finished seventh in the ACC in scoring (17.5), third in assists (5.0), third in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.80:1), third in free-throw percentage (.867) and fifth in minutes played (34.6) ...
