Paul Hewitt was named the 12th head coach in Georgia Tech basketball history on April 6, 2000 ... in his nine years on The Flats, Hewitt has recorded a mark of 154-131 and has guided the Yellow Jackets to post-season play five times, including four NCAA Tournament berths ... in 2004-05, he led the Jackets to their second consecutive 20-win season, a first for Georgia Tech since 1989-90 ... three of his past six Tech teams have won 20 or more games ... despite being picked for seventh in the media preseason poll in 2003-04, the Yellow Jackets tied a school record with 28 wins and advanced to the NCAA’s championship game before losing to Connecticut 82-73 ... in 2001, Hewitt became only the second first-year coach to earn ACC Coach of the Year honors ... his overall record as a head coach is 220-158 (.582), with a total of seven post-season appearances in 10 years ... prior to his arrival at Tech, Hewitt guided Siena College to two post-season appearances and an average of 22 wins in three seasons as a head coach ... at Siena, Hewitt directed the Saints to a 66-27 (.710) record ... following a three-year stretch in which Siena posted a 22-59 mark, Hewitt took a young Saints team to a 17-12 overall record and its first MAAC Tournament Championship game appearance ... in his second year, Siena finished with a 25-6 record, the school’s first MAAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

With the return of six of his top eight scorers, including three starters, Georgia Tech head coach Paul Hewitt and the Yellow Jackets look ahead to the 2009-10 season with optimism following a 12-19 record and a 12th-place finish in the ACC with a 2-14 league mark ... 28 of Tech’s 63 games the past two years have been decided by five points or fewer, or in overtime, and the Jackets are 12-16 in those games ... only seven of Tech’s 19 losses were by 10 or more points ... ranked fifth in the ACC and 26th nationally in blocked shots per game (5.0) ... Tech has not had a senior starting at point guard since Tony Akins in 2002 ... after producing only six double-doubles in 2008, Tech had four players total 26 double-doubles a year ago ... Hewitt, 154-131 in nine seasons with the Yellow Jackets, is 19th all-time in victories among ACC coaches ... missing from the Tech starting lineup are guard Lewis Clinch, who scored 22 or more points in six of Tech’s last seven games and finished as the team’s leading scorer (15.5),

and forward Alade Aminu, who finished third in the ACC in blocked shots (1.8), fifth in field goal percentage (.522) and eighth in rebounds (8.0) ... the lone returning senior starter, Zachery Peacock, was fifth on the team in scoring (9.2) a year ago and third in rebounding (4.8) in 24.7 minutes per game ... Gani Lawal more than doubled his freshman scoring and rebound averages en route to third-team All-ACC honors as a sophomore in 2009 ... Lawal averaged 15.1 points and 9.5 rebounds and led the league in double-figure rebound games (18) and double-doubles (15) ... Iman Shumpert had a strong rookie campaign; he finished second nationally among freshmen in assists (5.0) and in steals (2.1) ... the only Yellow Jacket to start all 31 games in 2009, Shumpert had 16 games with 10 or more points, finished fourth on the team in scoring (10.8) and earned All-ACC freshman honors ... in his first two seasons at Tech, Moe Miller has started 35 games while averaging 7.1 points and 3.7 assists per game.
