    Dino Gaudio
Dino Gaudio was named the 20th head basketball coach in Wake Forest basketball history on August 8, 2007. Despite starting three sophomores and two freshmen, Gaudio posted a 17-13 record including a 7-9 mark in league play in his rookie season on the Deacon bench.

A veteran of 27 years of coaching, Gaudio joined the Wake Forest staff as an assistant coach in 2002 when Skip Prosser was named head coach. After three seasons with the Deacons, Gaudio was promoted to associate head coach. In his six years with Prosser, Wake Forest compiled a record of 126-68 and reached postseason play five times including four straight NCAA Tournaments from 2002-05. Gaudio coached alongside Prosser for 17 years including 13 years at the college level.

In 20 years at the college level, including seven seasons as a head coach, Gaudio has helped his teams compile a 351-249 record, a .585 winning percentage. 11 of his 20 collegiate teams have reached the postseason including 10 NCAA Tournament berths and a pair of Sweet 16 appearances.

Gaudio was the head coach at Loyola (Md.) College from 1998-2000, compiling a 32-52 mark in three seasons. Prior to his stint with the Greyhounds, Gaudio was the head coach at Army from 1994 to 1997 finishing with a 36-72 record in his four seasons with the Black Knights. His 19 wins in his first two seasons were the most by a West Point coach in more than a decade.

A 1981 graduate of Ohio University, Gaudio earned double bachelor's degrees in accounting and secondary education. He received a master's degree in secondary education from Xavier in 1991.

Wake Forest returns all five starters from last season's team that finished with a 17-13 overall record and 7-9 (tied for seventh) in ACC play. The Deacons started three sophomores and two freshmen in 2007-08. Wake's victories of note last season included a homecourt win over a second-ranked Duke team and a road win at Florida State. Wake first-year head coach Dino Gaudio saw his team extend its homecourt winning streak to 16 games (dating back to the end of the 2006-07 season) before losing to Georgia Tech on Feb. 6. Despite a young lineup and new head coach, the Deacons opened last season with four straight wins and later added a six-game winning streak.

James Johnson started 28 games as a freshman. His 14.6 ppg ranked second among ACC freshmen. Johnson also led Deacons in rebounding with 8.1 per game. The three-game stretch vs. Duke, North Carolina and Maryland in late February saw Johnson average 23.7 points and 12.7 rebounds. His 16 rebounds vs. Duke were a career high.

Jeff Teague formed the other half of the Deacons' first-year 1-2 punch. He joined Johnson on the first-team All-ACC Freshman squad after averaging 13.9 points and 2.5 assists per game. He had a career-high 27 points in Wake's win over Miami. Teague scored 26 in the win over Duke and scored at least 20 points in three of Wake's final four games.

Chas McFarland led the ACC in per-game scoring improvement (+7.7), raising his scoring average to 8.4 ppg. McFarland also averaged 5.8 rpg. He scored a career-high 28 points at Georgia Tech and contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds in win at Florida State.

Ishmael Smith has 327 assists through his first two college seasons, fifth among active players. One of five players to lead ACC in assists as a freshman (6.0 apg in 2006-07). Smith averaged 8.6 ppg last season. He had 11 assists in win over Presbyterian.

L.D. Williams averaged 8.9 ppg and 3.8 rpg last season while starting 25 games. Williams had season highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds in win over Winston-Salem State. He added 16 points in win over Air Force. Williams had started every game of his career until being forced to sit out four midseason games last year due to injury. He returned to start final six games.
