GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 40-man rosters of the 10 teams competing in the upcoming Major League Baseball Playoffs include 23 players that played at current Atlantic Coast Conference schools.
The list includes National League batting champion Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants (Florida State) and Baltimore Orioles pitcher Joe Saunders (Virginia Tech), who is scheduled to start tonight’s Wild Card game against the Texas Rangers.
Florida State leads the ACC contingent with five former players (including those on the disabled list or inactive). Miami, North Carolina and Virginia boast four alums apiece.
Oakland’s five alumni from ACC schools represent the most among Major League playoff teams. Baltimore, San Francisco and St. Louis each have four players from current ACC schools on their rosters.
