CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - University of Virginia baseball player Sean Doolittle (Tabernacle, N.J./Shawnee) is picking right up where former UVa teammate Ryan Zimmerman left off. Doolittle is leading Team USA in batting average with a mark of .474 through nine games one year after Zimmerman paced Team USA with a USA National Team single-season batting record of .468 en route to winning the team's Triple Crown last season. Doolittle has appeared in eight of Team USA's nine games (including five starts) and is batting a team-high .474 after going 9-for-19 at the plate (including two doubles) with five RBI and four runs. He has posted a .579 slugging percentage and has a team-high .500 on base percentage with 11 total bases.
Doolittle and Team USA stand 5-4 (.556) through nine games and recently returned to the United States to participate in 11 games beginning with a five-game series against Italy from July 22-27. USA will play Italy on July 22-24 in Durham, N.C. before moving to Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 26th and Pawtucket, R.I. on July 27th.
